The Kite Runner--its very realistic, and it is rather haunting...its brilliant and beautifully written....i have had trouble trying to read a book after it as it is SO good....but beware it is very realistic, and not "happily ever after" all the time....so, if you want a book that is real, pick up The Kite Runner, and you will be absolutely amazed.....
Chinese Cinderella--my all time favorite...its an autobiography by Adeline Yen Mah....As a child, she was considered "bad luck" because her mother died giving birth to her.....read her story of triumph and how she survived in life, even though she was considered "bad luck"....she is really the Chinese Cinderella, and its such a touching and beautiful book....I have read that book 3 times and I cried 3 times the last 2 times I read it :)
MY STORY by Dave Pelzer--another autobiography that will bring you to tears....i think he is the 4th worse abused case in America....watch how Dave survived his life, and how he made it....and how he is using his experiences to help others....

Do you mean of all time or this summer? Well, so far this summer I've really liked "The Stolen Child" by Keith Donohue which was weird but really, really good; "Cold Mountain" by Charles Frazier (the movie was good, but the book is great); "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova; and "Water for Elephants" by Sarah Gruen.
As far as downloading books, you should check your library. Mine offers a service like this and they should walk you through how to do it.
