When resetting the valve clearance for my TRX 450 FM, one of the four head cover bolts thread stripped while tightening it and now some oil is leaking from the head. Is there any way to tighten and keep it tight without stripping it more or going thru the drill and tap route? Thanks

dont screw around with it. just drill it out and do it right the first time and youll only have to do it once. also get yourself a torque wrench, ive stipped many bolts before i figured out that a torque wrench is a good idea

Totaly go Heli-Coil set.
Take the stud\bolt to NAPA auto parts and have them match up the right kit for your application.

The kit will come with threader, helicoil threads, and installer.

It's fairly simple to do. and worth the effort in the long run.

You could dick around with it, but it will never work right.

You will need to buy the right size drill bit too.

your pretty much screwed, you can heli coil, but not without drilling and tapping. Your best bet to do it right is just drill it out tap it to a bigger bolt and do it right. Otherwise you will just create more problems for your self, especially when your dealing with head bolts

Do you mean threads on the stud or the hole. If it is the threads in the bolt hole you can use a Heli-coil.

Epoxy a stud in the hole and use a nut . Dry fit everything first to make sure it will work.
