When resetting the valve clearance for my TRX 450 FM, one of the four head cover bolts thread stripped while tightening it and now some oil is leaking from the head. Is there any way to tighten and keep it tight without stripping it more or going thru the drill and tap route? Thanks

Drill and tap / heli-coil is the right way to fix it. If you want to try the backyard mechanic way
-Remove the cover
-Clean the gasket surfaces on the head and cover until they look brand new.
-Install a new gasket and use a lot of HondaBond, YamaBond or KawiBond (liquid gasket).
Don't use any permatex garbage.
Don't use JB weld - it's like welding the cover to the head. The cover will never come off again.

No. It will not develop the tension needed to hold a head down. Drill and tap, and tighten with torque wrench, to specs.

why dont you just try to tap the hole and die the bolt without the drill first.

not really but you could try using jb weld but that's kind of cutting corners. or try using a new bolt,

Heli-coil, that's about your only option.
