How To Neutralize Acid

2016-10-01 03:32:05 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

By adding a base. The ph scale goes from 1-13 with 7 being neutral 1-6 acid and 8-13 base. so if you have something with an acidic ph of, lets say, 2, you have to add a base of 9ph to neutralize it. 9-2=7.

Add a base. An acid is a substance with a pH less than 7. A base has a pH greater than seven. Strong acids like HCl are neutralized by strong bases like NaOH. Weak acids like Acetic acid can be neutralized by weak bases like baking soda. The results of neutralization are always water and a salt (not always table salt). Often other substances will be produced as well. In the last example I gave carbon dioxide gas will also be produced. Ever heard of, "plop plop - fizz fizz"? That is what's happening there only the weak acid is citric acid. Hopefully it does neutralize the excess acid in your stomach though.

Lime is also used ton neutralize acid rain in lakes. Lime is variously described as being Calcium carbonate, calcium hydroxide and calcium oxide. Here are some reactions, where the afore-mentioned chemicals change back and forth. CaO+ H2O--->Ca(OH)2 CaCO3---> CaO+ CO2 Ca(OH)2+ CO2---> CaCO3+ H2O When put into acid soil, the CO2 is released. The OH - neutralizes the acid H+

if the ph is 4, neutralize it with a base of ph 7+(7-4), 10. If it is 1, neutralize it with a base of ph 7+(7-1), 13. ;D

Add a base.

An acid is a chemical that provides a protron (H+ or H3O+ ion) or receives an electron.

A base is just the opposite. A base receives a protron or gives an electron (often via the -OH ion in a water solution).

If it is on ur skin, just pour water over it (so u dont overdose urself w/ 2 much base/alkaline, which is also corrosive). Inside ur belly, then maybe antacid. Otherwise, just add sum base 2 it
