Lots of companies with monopoly like market power. In fact, it's hard to find an exception. Examples with lots o' market
power:
microsoft
local electric company
local cable company
anyone who owns a patent (e.g., lots of drugs)
musicians, or anyone who owns a copyright
But then you said 'industries'. Hard to find a true monopolist for an entire industry....

The only monoploies that exist are those created and protected by the government. Everyone else has at least a few competitors. For the Walmart Haters there is Costco, Target, and K-mart, Dollar General etc, ect...
The only real monopolies are the Railroads (government protected), Utility Companies ( Gas, Electric, and Water). Sanitation services. Government schools, in most states you have to pay school tax whether or not your kids attend or if you even have kids or not.

First, libertarianism does not attempt to use force or coercion on anyone. Socialism REQUIRES force and coercion, and the subjugation of individual achievement to an ever-present authority. The goal of Libertarianism is to eliminate force and coercion, so that all interactions are voluntary. You say "If capital is privately controlled, then people are going to have to rent themselves in order to survive." No they don't. This statement is completely ignorant of reality. What we don't want is for you to have to get permission from the government to go fishing or hunting to feed yourself. You don't need permission from the government to start your own business. You don't need permission to get married, or to sell products. In socialism, the society sacrifices the work of some people so others may reap their rewards without ever having to contribute anything. They say, "Work or don't work. It doesn't matter because you won't starve." We are not saying "do what I tell you or starve". We are saying do whatever you want and deal with the results. In fact, socialists are the ones that say "Give me the taxes I order you to pay or go to jail". The fact is this: None of the most beneficial achievements of civilization that come from government bureaus. Einstein did not construct his theories under order from a bureaucrat. Henry Ford didn't revolutionize the automobile industry that way. In the only cases, in recorded history, where the masses have escaped poverty, was where they had capitalism and largely free trade. If you want to see where the masses are worst off, it is in exactly the kinds of societies that depart from that. The record of history is crystal clear: there is no alternative way, so far discovered, of improving the lot of the ordinary citizen that can hold a candle to the productive activities that are unleashed by a free enterprise system. You say "everybody knows that a society that worked by American libertarian principles would self-destruct in three seconds". Really? Because I thought liberty is what allowed for businessmen to create the industrial revolution, which gave Americans the highest standard of living in the world. The experiment lasted a hell of a lot longer than 3 seconds... The results are the reason you live the way we live even today. And for the record, I am a libertarian who is not in favor of public school, killing ANYONE, nor any of "that sort of stuff". If you think libertarians want these things, then you are a moron. Monopolies exist ONLY when the government intervenes in the economy for programs like Amtrak, the Post Office, the Federal Reserve, the FDIC, Fannie, Freddie, the Dept of Energy, the FDA, the TSA, and countless other Government sponsored corporations. I'd bet you can't even name ONE monopoly that was created by a capitalist. Some of your comments are extremely ignorant and hateful, but this is what you get with liberty: -High quality, low cost education for children -No monopolies -Safe, efficient work places -Low cost products -Clean Food (the FDA actually approves of insect fragments in peanut butter) -A market system that does not allow corruption You have no idea what you are talking about, yet you go around spouting this incredulous diatribe, flinging around ignoble insults like confetti. I actually feel sorry for you because you actually think it is MORAL to use force and coercion against your fellow citizens. All you really are promoting is tyranny.
