There's not much data yet regarding the safety of the use of paint by pregnant women, but most experts agree that it's best to avoid contact with oil-based paint, polyurethane floor finishes, spray paints, turpentine (and similar solvents), and liquid paint removers. Don't scrape or sand old paint off either since old paint often contains lead. If you must paint, latex paints are considered the safer choice, and the paint should be brushed or rolled on rather than sprayed. (Be sure not to use old latex paint that was bought more than ten years ago because it may contain a preservative that contains mercury.) Good ventilation is a must.

as long as you are wearing a ventilator mask and not using lead-based paint which has been mostly taken off the market, you should be fine. Call Ask-a-nurse or your doctor just to be on the safe side. It will help with your peace of mind.

breathing the fumes in can cause problems with the babies development. Talk to your doctor if you are in a well ventilated area though and you were a face mask, then you should be ok.

I painted three rooms inside my home (with open windows, of course) during my pregnancy, and I am the proud mommy of a healthy, happy (I hope she is) 1 year old little girl. Of course, everything is fine in moderation.

You'll be fine as long as you keep it well-ventilated.
