He's really smart!! He knows he is too young to be getting water, and he is letting you know! Until a baby is at least 6 months and old enough to be eating solids, they shouldn't get any water (and, in fact, until 12 months, he doesn't need it). As long as a baby is fully breastfed (or getting only formula), water is not good for him. It will fill him up so that he isn't hungry for nutritious food, and too much can put a strain on his kidneys. And nobody knows exactly how much is "too much".

Drinking? Add about an ounce of juice to it. You can also buy the flavored water drinks, but the juice works very well.
Bathing? It's rather natural for them to "hate" the water. It's rather new for them, and as they become more "aware" of things, it is frightening because they don't understand it. I bathed with my daughter until she was about 5 months old. She then took baths on her own. I think that being in the tub with her made her feel safer, and it showed her that there was nothing to be afraid of. I would play a radio and sing to her as I washed her, and played games with her and splashed the water and laughed to show her how fun things could be. When she took her own baths, she was not afraid, and now will crawl into the bathroom and throw her toys into the tub, and then yell for her father or myself, telling us she wants to take a bath.
Either way, it is just something that will be outgrown, but don't force things onto him. If he is afraid, respect that, but show him there is nothing to be afraid of. He will come around. . .

A 4 month old should not be drinking water. He needs only his milk to drink. There are no nutrients in water and he is during a very sensitive time in his life, were the most growth occurs.

Does he hate to drink water? - Most doctors don't want babies this young drinking water. Hates water for baths, then you need to help him get adjusted to the water. Get him some fun toys that are colorful and fun and that can be played with in the tub. Just put enough water in the tub to get him wet and as he adjusts keep adding more until there is enough to get the toys to float. You could also get in the tub with him so that he feels more secure in the tub. I used to shower my girls when they were very little so that they had me next to them and they would cuddle in and become very calm. Now I can't get them out of the water (even from swimming).

Does he hate drinking water or hates getting a bath?
If he hates drinking water, stop giving it to him - my pediatrician says not to offer it until 12 months of age (although my 8 month old drinks 2 oz of water a day because she LOVES it

You dont need to give him water yet so if he doesnt want it dont give it to him. I just had my son to the doctors yesterday for shots. He is seven months old and the doctor told me i could start trying to put a little water in a sippy cup to get him started on it.

If you're breastfeeding, it doesn't matter. All children need until they are 6 months is breastmilk. If you're formula feeding, it gets a bit more complex.***
Try mixing flavors, or add just a little more water per formula mix. It's liquid anyway, so all it will do is dilute the flavor, but will hydrate him more.

Are we talking about drinking water or being in it?
If we are talking about drinking water...dont worry about it. He is too young to be drinking water, anyway. You want him to have the benefit of the fat and vitamins and protein in breast milk or formula.
Whatever you do...DO NOT give him juice or pedialyte (even if it is diluted). There is absolutely nothing beneficial in juice...it's just sugar. All that does is gets him accustomed to consuming sweets and that is definitely not a good thing.

Try Pedialyte? Most babies reject water at first, just keep trying.
The other suggestion about mixing a little juice with it, not a bad idea. At least you'd be able to get some water in him that way.
Do you like water? Lots of people don't. They often substitute other liquids that have water in them.

If he hates water I would just introduce it to him slowly, be gentle while giving him baths. Just let him know that the water wont hurt him. Just be there for him and comfort him while he is in the water and dont force him to get in more than he is comfortable. Good luck.
