The belt is not twisted, but somehow the latchplate tongue is turned the wrong way and it is impossible(for me anyway) to turn it around the right way. How does this happen and how do you fix it?? It is really strange.

Sounds like the belt IS twisted (in the retractor). Gently pull the belt ALL the way of the retractor and check if the fabric got twisted and then rewound into the retractor assy. Happens ALL the time in my Mustang.

Betcha the belt IS twisted somewhere in the retractor assembly. This has been a problem ever since seat belts came out.
Pull the whole belt out to the very end, and you'll most likely find the twist.

That's a question that will haunt you, and every other car owner, forever. Nobody knows how, but so many do. If it's your car, just take the time to fold back on itself and make it right. If it's not your car, then don't worry about it.
If it's any consolation, it bugs the hell out of me too.

this is one of those questions that God himself couldn't answer..the laws of physics say this shouldn't happen by accident because they are sooooooooo hard to put back to normal...go to a shop, one of the guys will probably straighten it for free, I have many times. My current car (98 plymouth) has never done that, but most will at some time....I think it's gremlins....yup, gremlins....
