I have a simple solution to that. Go there at night, which is probably what you do. Leave your splendid donations at the door.

Funny story....I volunteered at the SA after hurricane Katrina here in Atlanta. There was a wonderful out pouring of love from people near and far to aid the displaced, but some of the "donations" were a bit WRONG to say the least! It was so hard to explain to a woman why her as she put it "mildly stained" underwear could not be accepted. They were mostly thongs at that! Or how about the guy that wanted to donate a BOAT to the shelter! One displace woman yelled over the crowed in very deep Cajun dialect..." I coulda used that in New Orleans!" Many people started to laugh but we still had to tell the man that he should donate it at one of the stores and not the shelter. Other items we turned away included air mattresses with " a very tiny hole. It takes hours for the air to leak out." , blenders, cloth diapers and my favorite a broken down car with a busted engine. His thought? Maybe one of the displaced people was a mechanic and could fix it. WITH WHAT? No one donated tools or engines! But all in all, many people donated things we could use and they were very well received and the people were so thankful! Okay, there's my book!

Never. The Salvation Army is the number one quality charity is this country. They return a greater percentage of money and benefits to the people than any other outfit. It is something like 95 cents to the dollar. That compares with some scammer charities which keep almost everything.

There is a dumpers looking thing by walmart that I drop my stuff off at and the Salvation Army just comes and gets it so I don't know if they reject it or not.

No, but a friend of mine had her donations declined. She offered them a bunch of stuff--clothes, furniture, some kitchen stuff. They told her the only thing they'd take was her sofa.

2 schmoes came once for our couch and loveseat. Thye said it was too worn so they couldn't take it (yet they were sent out, obviously a judgement call)) but the real reason was it was too heavy for the lazy bummers. We took it ourselves an hour later and they were glad to accept it.

Yes. They don't want things like, furniture, unless it is good condition. As they are a not for profit agency they do not want something that will cost them too much to repair.

Yeah, actually. Took them two perfectly useable wheelchairs. Next week they were back in my storeroom. Still don't know how that happened. True story.
