Pride hasn't been considered a sin since it was believed that all human thoughts and actions were a manifestation of God's will. Therefore, taking pride in oneself would be like taking credit for something God had done.

Nobody believes that anymore.

As far as the seven deadly sins are concerned, they were never actually part of the bible, but were created through long periods of time, dozens of translations and interpretations.

Wow. I never really thought about it but now that you mention it......I think the pride part of it turns me off just as much if not more than the "gay" part of it. If it were any other type of "pride parade," I think I'd still be just as sickened. When people go into the streets parading aroudn and acting all full of themselves, it makes me sick, no matter what the reason is behind their parading. Yes pride is just as wrong as gayness.
And to "Drew"....what is more "haughty" than people wandering around grinning from ear to ear, kissing people of the same sex, wearing bright clashing colors and all in PUBLIC?

That's a really good question and deserves more than a smart a** answer. I guess the people who worry about Gays have bigger things on their mind than the issue of pride. And the ones who have no problem obviously couldn't care less about any other fault either.

I think that the pride these marches refer to is different than the pride referred to in the bible. In the bible, pride is synonymous with haughtiness, greed, self-righteousness and thinking you're better than others. Whereas, pride in the context of gay pride marches is being happy and content with who you are. Is it prideful when a mother says she is proud of her son for his great test score? I think not...

Pride one of the 7 deadly sins.

Seeing ourselves as we are and not comparing ourselves to others is humility. Pride and vanity are competitive. If someone else's pride really bothers you, you have a lot of pride.

Because in this context, pride means not so much vainglory as self-respect.
