Morally: No the best punishment is to rot

financially: Yes, it costs over $100,000 to keep a prisoner in prison a year, that's more than most people make, so it costs 2+ honest people to pay for one career criminal

Philosopically: the punishment should fit the crime.

No because there are two many people falsely accused and in prison.David Milgaard and Donald Marshall were both set free after DNA testing proved their innocence. If they had received the death penalty, they both would have died innocent men. If even one person is put to death wrongly, that is one too many. Not only that, but the state should never be allowed to play God. It is far better for a gulity person to have to live with the knowledge of what they have done forever, rather than have death set them free from their own thoughts.

While I believe in harsh punishment, and I don't necessarily agree with our prison system, as I believe prisoners should be forced to work and the prison should be self-sufficient. That is, grow their own food, manufacture items for sale, etc.

I am however against the death penalty, because I just believe we as humans should not take away what we cannot give. In other words, we can't bring something or someone to life, so we should not take it away either.

No, I do not believe in the death penalty. Actually people would rather die than stay in jail all of their life. I think the death penalty is not the harshest punishment. Being in jail locked up is.

no. life is precious, even to those who have committed crimes.
people who believe in the death penalty are usually emotional female relatives looking for revenge against the criminal.....

you can't take away what a criminal has done. and you can't teach him a lesson by killing him.

at least with imprisonment, we take the prisoner away from society where he can't do any more harm. you also give him a chance to change, feel guilty, and maybe become a better person.

unless there are problems with security in prisons, i think lifetime sentences are just plain logical.....
the only problem i can see is possibly an added expense to taxpayers for however much it costs for inmates to live in jail.

will you take lives to save money?

Yes for those crime so horrible. When a person murders another person and is of danger to the rest of society the answer is always yes. It is the one crime that God allows society to punish. And yes, even the criminally insane or insane at the time of murder as in the recent Yeats verdict, should be and can be put to death, they above all are of debtorent to all who are law abiding citizens.

No! My father in law was shot with a 22 cal. riffle last Deptember by a minor and a person of a difference race for no reason. My father in law died 9 days later from the shot wound. Killing this person would be of no use...he needs jail time of the worse kind of jail setting.

No, I do not, and before you put me in the category of being a "liberal" or call me a hypocrite, I will also tell you that I don't believe in abortion, either. A human life is a hujman life, no matter what.

im in the middle of that one, in one way, totally, think of all the murders and child abusers out there, that could have been your loved one, better yet, what if it did happen to a loved one? then how would you feel? also, if they sit in prison forever, then they are just eating up tax-payers money i dont want my money going to someone like that! the gov. getting it is bad enough!!!! but on the other hand, sometimes killing them is like letting them off! sit your *** in there for the rest of your life and suffer, have everyday for the rest of your life, to remember what you done!!
