this is driving me insane. i can't go far distances in this damned 1989 chevy suburban. the tranny drips fluid at normal capacity, city driving. on high loads, like hills and freeway speed, it just dumps fluid. i need to travel to sacremento from south lake tahoe, and, i cant! the pan is not warped, i glued that mother shut with avaition gasket and a gasket, and did the correct torque specs in the star pattern. the leak could be coming from the steel cooler lines, but i would think they would be sopping wet from, all the fluid its been dumping.i could swear that it was coming from the pan. the vacuum modulater looks to be the culprit, but i just pulled it, and it still has a nice o-ring on there (i just replaced the mod 2 weeks ago). that big plastic line might be it too, but i dont have an idea how to check/pull that piece out... any input on the situation?anything would just be awesome. im willing to try almost anything short of replacing the tranny. thanks.

several places it could be leaking from the shifter shaft seal usely a small leak, the input seal usely a big leak if the seal is pushed out it could leak about a quart every 30 seconds, the dipstick tube the o-ring may be leaking or the tube is cracked usely a small leak again, the pan or the pan rail may be cracked, the speedo bullet o-ring maybe leaking the cooler lines also and the rear seal ALL THESE LEAKS YOU CAN SEE.

go to autozone, tell them the problem and that you want a quart of transmission stopleak. if it is a small leak, that will stop it. it costs 8 dollars.

to have the transmission pulled out and resealed will cost about 250 dollars . i just had that done for a 1989 ford aerostar van. my front seal was pushed out and it was dumping fluid when it got hot.

if its your front seal, the fluid will be coming from inside the dust cover you cant really see the fluid leak, no matter what you do. you can only see the fluid all over the place.

it is coming from 1 of 3 places front seal rear seal or pan gasket, if its the front seal you will have to pull the tranny if it is the back seal all you have to do is drop the drive shaft its the pan gasket you will have to drop it. either seal isnt over 8 bucks at the most. cheaper than buying a tranny.

im not too familiar with the turbo400 but i know on my race cars turbo350 the torque convrter was leaking and the fluid was comming out of the inspection cover.

what i would do is start the motor and climb undernieth to pinpoint the leak. it could be something as easy as the seal around where the driveshaft goes in.

try to find where the fluids comming from and ill help you from there.

it is more than likely going to be your front seal you do not need to change the tranny but you do need to drop it out of the car the seal is in the front you cant see it unless you drop the tranny and it will look like it is leakeing in other places because the air from the flywheel turning blows it around in different places

first of all do no longer positioned any variety of sealer or silicone on the gasket, positioned it on dry.additionally you may nicely be over torquing the bolts, which will reason the gasket to flat-en and leak.Watch the gasket once you start to instruct the bolts ,if the gasket starts off to return out between the pan and transmission ,you're over torquing them, solid success
