When can a fetus hear things?

I'm almost 19wks and was wondering if the baby can hear things outside the uterus???? Do you have to put head phones to your belly for it to hear things?? 1st pregnancy!!!

I am not sure how much truth that holds but I have heard it many places. If you actually put head phones to your stomach the baby will be able to hear it better.
