These chunks you get are a result of oil build-up on the tonsils. The tonsils are glands which secrete oils, and over time the oils build up and crust over on the back of the tonsils. These nasty little chunks will usually break off and wind up going down your throat most of the time, or will find their way into the back of your mouth. They taste awful and should be spit out, though they are not really harmful to swallow.

Another cause is sinuses...sinus infections, clogs and random bacteria will sometimes cause buildups of mucous which will form somewhat hard chunks which will find their way into your throat. If you get these frequently it may be a sign of an ear/nose/throat problem.

it could be food caught in the tonsils (which causes bad breath, that's one sign)...or puss nodules caused by a throat infection such as strep. Get your throat looked at by a doc to rule out something that needs treatment.

Yes I do.
Do you want to know what they are?
OK I will tell you even tho you never asked.
Cryptic tonsils. you will need very strong antibiotics to get rid of them,
If they look like little brains on each tonsil that is what they are.
The Dr will scrape them and remove the puss from them, and you will see the Dr remove quite a bit.

They are pockets of puss that form when you have an infection. Antibiotics are the only cure, even if they don't hurt. Actually, the less pain there is the worse the infection. Same with ear infections.
