If you loose him you can report it in the police.
Suggestions... always put a lock on the weel or or the whole bike, also if the bike is indoors. If your bike has gears put the smallest one,the one you may use for steep mountains, so the thief can-t go far enough so quickly. You can also remove the front wheel and tigh it to the back one. Another one is to label your bike with a number you can remember, so you can identify it.

My kid's bike was stolen and two weeks later we saw some old drunk guy peddling down the road on it. So I ran out yelling at him chasing him down the street, and just so happened a cop was driving by and saw the hole thing. The guy said he found it on the side of the road. I was just happy to get the bike back for my kid.

Impossible, my bike is always locked, or locked up in the shed. If someone tried to carry it away, they'd have a job - it's an old 1940's bike, very very heavy.
