It's a hollow, slightly turbulent sphere with a gradiated cross-section (that is to say, it doesn't have a specific upper limit, it just dissipates). From the point of view of an observer on the ground, it's a big hemisphere that the observer is in the center of.

It has no shape..it doesnt actualyl exists, its just the first 100 odd miles of air above us...so meh :P
