I owed taxes for 2 years and refinanced 3 months ago to pay them. However, when sheriff came beating down my door saying my house would be sold due to back taxes today, I looked at settlement sheet--the taxes were never paid! Essentially, this is my debt, and even though my mortgage company was dishonest, why didn't the title company catch it? I made the mistake of not checking the settlement sheet carefully (refi closing was at 10:30pm). I called title company and a rep said that he received notice of the back taxes but called someone at the county office who told him verbally no taxes were owed. I have title insurance. Can I get the title company to pay?

Let me see before they "sell" your home you will receive a tax statement each and every year showing the amount due.

After they become late and before a sale, you will recieve several wrintten notice, and it will be published in the paper showing they will sell it.

And title insurance does not cover your lack of paying the taxes.
If you paid it to a finance company and they did nto pay them, you wil have to pay them and then sue the fiance company to get the money back.

The title company. Title companies, insurance companies and the lie, love to collect money, but not pay it out. I think we should all rush their offices and trash them.

Let the buyer beware. . .

You are the one responsible. If you don't pay the back taxes, who's going to jail? It sure ain't the title company. . .
