Because AA demands conformity.

You sit around listening to the same drunkalogues, people using the same trite slogans repeatedly, reading the same 164 pages over and over for years, and you're going to turn out to be just like the person who sits next to you.

And it's the same all over in meetings. They're as interchangeable as any major fast food chain.

Actually, the idea that there is such a thing as an alcoholic or addict personality (which is preached in treatment centers all of the time) is a myth. If you do personality testing on people that are in treatment centers for substance abuse, they are all over the map. There are personality traits that may lead one to be more likely to abuse substances such as impulsiveness, but, these vary from individual to individual.

Now, if you are asking why all AA members act the same/share similar personalities, why not ask why all Scientologists or all Moonies are the same. Indoctrination and dogma that must be believed to be a member.

Alcoholism is not a disease and AA only helps maybe 5% of the people that attend. If any other cure did so poorly, we would scrap it.

Often times an alcoholic will appear drunk or under the influence of alcohol. Sometimes they may have one or more DUI's on their driving record. Hopefully they have not killed anyone yet. They might appear at parties with a lampshade on their head and think they are funny and that everyone agrees. They don't.

They don't have the same personality profile. This site is just a sour grapes whine from some unhappy, angry and insecure people.

P.S. I don't belong to AA or any other self-help group.

Because alcoholism is a disease and the reason alcoholics have the same "profiles" is because they have the same symptoms to their addiction/disease

That link was stupid, AA has helped many people to live sober lives, whatever you may think of them. Don't go to AA if it bothers you.
