What does "Porcupine Huggers" mean in plain words???

A porcupine got his quills out to protect himself, so if you try to hug him or just show him love, you end up getting hurt.
A porcupine hugger is somebody that will absorbed the pain into himself, he will not stop before the quills, he will still try and always ends up hurt.

I have never heard that but I would guess it would mean people who like to punish themselves.
