The youngest author I've ever read is Camera Ashe, Arthur Ashe's daughter, who was about six when she wrote "Daddy and Me". It talked about how his life, and her life changed after he was diagnosed with AIDS. It was really touching. I've also heard of a book called "Flying Fingers" by this genius of a 7-year old I saw named Adora Svitak. She is also a short-story writer. Anyone who has the creativity to write a good story should do so, no matter what age.....just for future reference, S.E. Hinton was your age when she published "The Outsiders". Happy Writing, and Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

No, I think the only requirements are that you can fund your publication and write well.
Edit: I looked at some more websites and did a little research lately. You have to be eighteen to sign legal documents, and there are a lot of those that need to be signed (copyright documents from the government and the contract with a publisher) for that you'll need a parent/guardian signiture.
However, there are no limits on age to have a book published (I know of books published by people from ages 7 and up). These were published by major publishing houses too. So age isn't a problem except in the legal areas. Also, it is a good idea to get a reliable agent, because many publishing houses require them now. They get a lot of manuscripts submitted to them, so they do this to lower the amount they look at.
This doesn't mean they're snooty or stuck up, it just means they're overloaded by what's submitted to them. I hope this helps.

you don't have to be a certain age to write a book. If you're too young, your parents may have to sign the contract, but your book can still be published. Case in point - super popular book Eragon (which is coming out as a movie in December) was written and published when the author was either 14/15 ( I forget)

An author can have his or her work published at any age. The only difficulty you could encounter is that you are still too young to enter into binding contracts on your own. You will need at least one parent to sign contracts with or for you (depending on your State's laws). That will generally be the case until you're 18. By then, you'll have a flock of lawyers to handle the little stuff like that, though, right? Good luck and much success.

I'm trying the same thing. Publishing company's are fussy. The more stuck up ones like Warner time says you need a agent to be noticed. Kensington needs u to be 21. So far I myself am just starting out small. Like on Dramer pub.
Another bit of advice is to read the requriments. Theres a bunch of places that all say write a synapsis. A quary letter. Three chapters. Dramer has weblinks that can really help also have friends and family read the story first for grammer/corrections. Niculous Sparks got a agent first. Maggie Shayne just sent her stuff out first then got a agent.

Actually, I think you do have to be 18. You don't have to be any age to publish a book, but in order to copyright you have to sign a form and in the USA no minor can sign legal documents without their parent's consent. I'm not positive on this the laws may have changed, so you should ask an attorney who is familiar with copyright law.

You have to be 18 in order to be able to sign a contract legally. However there is no age limite to self publishing an ebook. All you need is the program to convert to pdf.

No, you can be any age, but you have to be good and get a good agent to represent you. A girl here in Britain wrote a book last year on how to deal with parents divorcing and she was nine. Anything goes!
