From what you've heard - That explains a lot. I'm not trying to insult you. You should have asked that question of all armies but, back to Americans. I can only recommend that you STUDY actual historical events. Start with WWII. I say that because that war was the first deviation from the old style of warfare. Then again maybe you should simply study the battles of the Revolutionary war. That was pretty up close and personal. Actually a lot of training goes to units so they can identify each other. In the field that can be incredibly difficult. Since your mind is possibly made up then the only way for you to understand is to be the one whose life is on the line. If the Americans were as trigger happy as you seem to think their enemies would win more wars and their allies would be less inclined to be allies. Don't listen to others research for yourself.

You ever been in a combat situation? I have and I can tell you that the neat and orderly tactics most often portrayed by Hollywood is a full load of crap. Combat is mass confusion. Very loud and dangerous confusion. You're either blathering from total ignorance or the equally stupid assumption that it's only US forces that make friendly-fire mistakes. By its very nature, combat is filled with mistakes. Always has been, always will be.

Yes, millitary does not occupy themselves too much with ethical questions, but only winning, otherwise they would undermine their very own existence.
Training is aimed towards brainwashing them to become desensitized, so they will not be hampered by their conscience.
