This is what I would wear. A blue jean jacket, you know the kind that was like it was barely stained with bleach, maybe some type of simple 80s graphic tee, some black shiny stretch pants, and some red pumps...I would put on some crazy makeup, but not too crazy so that i look like a clown, and id wear my hair with 4 or 5 braids, with my hair going to the side, and some cute red earrings. Can't forget the bangles lol.

You have to tease your hair up Madonna style ( think "Like A Virgin" ) use alot of Aqua Net hairspray. tie a piece of lace around for a hair tie. Wear lots of jewelry, chains, bangle bracelets. Go for lots of eye makeup and frosty lipstick.
Wear a tank top or t shirt with distressed or acid wash peg leg jeans or black leggings under a skirt. A bustier or lingerie looking top would be good too. For shoes, how about pumps with anklet socks.
If you were willing to spend a little money, you could probably find a really hideous 80's formal at a thrift shop, that would be fun too.
Have fun!

Think of all those '80's videos and you should be able to come up with something out of your closet even if you weren't around in
the 1980's. Check with your friends also.
=========================================
Here are some of the styles from that era:
Clothing in bright colors and bold stripes, harem pants, oversized sweatshirts worn like minidresses over Danskin leotards, legwarmers, giant removable shoulder pads, bomber jackets, cheap jewelry, a stack of bracelets, minis & short denim jackets with patches, beads, lace, etc. Calvin Klein jeans, camouflage military-style clothes, day-glo attire - jackets and trousers made of rayon and velvet and satin, in shades of hot pink, neon blue and candy-apple red. Boxy jackets, string ties, Miami Vice look - the unstructured Armani blazers over pastel-hued T-shirts or tank tops, and the Gucci loafers, Hawaiian shirts, bomber or stadium jacket over a T-shirt and blue jeans, Levi's jeans, BIG hair with Lots of hairspray, bows & scarves in the hair, lots of make-up, over-done accessories, wear a bunch of necklaces & huge gaudy earrings.

Old Blue Jeans, that have seen better days, cut em up, put holes in the *** and knees. Make em look worn, and try a brightly colored tee shirt. Wear your hair big, or in a sideways pony. Use chunky costume jewelry and heels. Anything over the top or gaudy is fun and perfect! Have fun.

It's all in the colors, pinks and aqua blue, lime greens. The hair was spiked and messy. A lot of movies show the styles, with the tank tee and the shirt over that off the shoulders.
the only movie I can think of is Earth Girls are Easy.

I don't think I have anything in my wardrobe that even remotely could mimic 80's fashion. Your best bet is to just bite the bullet and go to a costume shop.

wear a jean mini skirt, some black leggings, a shirt with a band from the 80s on it, a head scarf, a belt, some loop earings, layer some necklaces, and some converses or funky tennis shoes or heels!

Hmmm...let's see...oversized shirt, large belt, mini skirt over leggings with lace at the ankles, large hoops earrings, tons of those little plastic bracelets, BIG ratted and hairsprayed hair. Yep, that sums up the 80's pretty good!!

Cut the feet off of some kneehigh socks to become legwarmers, biking pants/anything tight and stretchy (preferably black), neon shirt with the shoulders cut down so they hang and a side ponytail.
