Without using religion, there is no real reason why gays should not get married and enjoy the same relationship and benefits of everyone else.
When weak minded people don't like something, they don't have the guts to say they don't like something and why, they use their religion as an excuse. However, no one follows everything in their religion, they pick and chose what suits them in reality. Then when they don't like something, they turn back to religion in a thin attempt to make themselves seem right. They aren't allowed to kill anyone, cause it is against their religion, but the second you don't like a group of people its OK to go to war and kill them. They just adopt what they wish to do based on their own personal often hidden agenda.
The bible is not a source to quote from, it is a work of fiction. Using the bible as a source to tell people how to live their lives, is like using DC Comics Superman series to explain the properties of Kryptonite. Or how to fix your car using warp-drive technology from Star Trek, these are all works of fiction. That is why we have laws. Laws that were written by real people to help solve real problems. Not taking advice from people in religion where some have never been married or had sex, yet they dispense advice on love, life and marriage when they have never experienced these things first hand is like being a dentist without going to dental school. They are not qualified.
They didn't allow blacks and whites to get married at one time, and you can be sure, those with bible in hand were there to justify the prevention of it. They didn't want to have blacks and whites mixed in the same fighting company in the military, and explained it then about the group not being able to work together. All nonsense.
Without using religion, the only thing left to explain why gay marriage is wrong is just their bigoted stupid misinformed opinions.

I'm not gay and I'm not taking a side. You asked for some of the reasons and here are some that I have heard.
There are two meanings to marriage. One is a religious union. Thus, if the religion is against it then gays are out of luck. Go with another religion.
The second meaning is civil marriage. This is where it gets complicated. States regulate marriage laws yet you wouldn't want to travel to another state and find your marriage is null and void.
Reasons why states might be against it include:
- people feel they need to vote according to their religion.
- companies would have to give benefits to gay spouses.
- effects tax revenue (marriage tax rate; spouse deduction)
- many consider homosexuality unnatural
- may encourage more people to become gay
- some wonder: what's next, marrying your pets?
Most of these opinions seem rediculous to me but in the end it is up to what society as a whole decides that marriage represents. For most of history, marriage has been defined as a union between a man and a women.
The counter point to this question would be, "Can you explain why Gay Marriage is right and deserves the same standards reserved for heterosexual couples?"

Marriage is a religious ceremony, it has nothing to do with the state. End of story. If you believe in separation of church and state, which, btw, is NOT in the constitution, then the state has no say in religious ceremonies. Now, anyone can be in business together; if you want to buy a house together, start a business together, or even be a guest in the hospital together (you can be put on the guest list) no one is stopping you. There are religions that marry gays, and that's their business too. So, you see, you're confusing the issue. No human rights are being violated in this instance. Reality is what you make of it.... Now, in america, we can get bills signed into laws, but until that time, i think the state should stay out of it.
Give me one benefit of the states marrying gays. You can't. (I also believe the same about straight marriages; the state should stay out of them)

Church is = to law in the reality department... both are creations of man... Marriage laws in the US are usually determined by the states... the majority of people in the states do not want gay marriage = to straight marriage... If the people all felt like gay marriage is okay then they would vote that way... and yay gay marriage would be okay... People make their own decisions about whether they think its okay or not determined on not just the bible but any number of reasons...

When two people get married they aren't just making vows to each other. They are more importantly making vows to God. Marriage isn't an institution that was put in place by the world community. It is a religious institution. It was religion that set the guidelines for the foundation of marriage. Since the gay community's lifestyle is in direct contradiction to the values taught in religion, there is a basis for not wanting the government getting involved in the process of making rules concerning marriage. The government shouldn't be involved in imposing rules of marriage to the church. They should stay out of it. Since marriage is a part of religion I believe it would be rather difficult to answer your question without explaining the relation between the two. If you want answers to a question you can't put limitations on what you want the answer to be unless you are unwilling to hear the truth. I hope this helps.

I agree with you totally!!! Too bad so many people say such crappy things. I think if it affects someone or they don't like it then they need counseling or simply not look and mind their own business. Gay people are not hurting others they have a right to be happily married too.
If I was gay I would only worry about how my children were treated because of the crapy way society is. It is America, the free! I say marry who you want and be happy, there is no right or wrong answer for who you love.

Marriage is the human breeding institution. Ever since ancient times, its purpose was to facilitate the creation of children and to provide for their care until they could make their way in life independently.
Marriage thus has a specialness that is distinct from any religious creed. In fact, religion often tries to co-opt marriage, to subordinate it within a "larger" (heh heh) context, precisely because breeding and childraising are central to the continuance of life. The power to regulate the breeding institution would confer much influence upon the priesthood, and that's why religion usually involves itself with marriage.
Nonetheless, marriage would still be valuable, perhaps to the point of being sacred, even if everyone in the world were atheists.
Whereas religion seeks to regulate marriage, the homosexuals seek to mock it. Since their relationships don't involve breeding, it is mendacious of them to attempt to become recognized as participants in the human breeding institution: marriage.
If the queers want to invent a special status for their relationships, let them. But they should call it something else, so that the genuine, fertile man-woman-child institution remains clearly distinct from any nasty, unhealthy, perverse, barren imitation.

First off, there is no actual "separation of church and state", but that is for another post. Gay marriage is wrong in the fact that homosexuals can not propagate the species, so extinction would be inevitable if homosexuality was common as opposed to heterosexuality. The only way to prove it morally wrong is to include religion.

I am not against Gay marriage, and have gay cousins and gay friends, but in the eyes of nature (Nature not Religion) a man and a woman are needed to reproduce in this world. We are not asexual, thus we cannot reproduce on our own. On the flip side, there are 7 1/2 billion people on this planet. I say if Gays want to get married and not breed, go for it. It will save us some mouths to feed.

I agree with you. If consenting adults find themselves in love and want to commit to each other, I think that's wonderful and would and have been fully suportive. Iam a Christian and don't see Christanity as a "fairy tale" as you call it but I also feel that there are enough religious choices out there that a gay couple should be welcomed and not berated for the way they are.
