It is to pay tribute for the Old Honda Racing Heritage... most speedsters in the 50's competing in Le-Mans or in the Mille Midlia Races have a start button. The reason is when they signal the start of the race - the racers/ drivers are in the side of the race track out of their cars and They woul all be running towards the cars.

Just imagine if you're in a hurry and you need to start your car without wasting a second. You'll never be able to manage it with a key. With this ergonomic provision - you can have the car running while your but is still in mid-air while you're mounting on your driver seat.

So, that button is not to prevent auto- theft... it is there for a quick get-away. I hope this answers your question.

OK you techno dweebs,
The engine start is there because it is a new item. this is a car not a bike. there is no key!
there is a passive sensor you carry and without it you don't start the car and if the car gets too far from i the engine shuts down...Cool anti theft. so the engine start does start the engine. if you have the right stuff...
