Nope. There are a lot of older people who don't know ****! I seem to work with most of them, but you may have one there too. Respect them, but you don't have to listen to them. March to the beat of your own drummer!

Well, out of respect you should give them an opportunity to speak and hear what they have to say, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to follow their advice. In many instances people who are older can share the benefit of their counsel based upon having made mistakes and warning others not to make the same mistake. But a lot of times people just talk because they think they have something to say and they don't even realize that they don't really have the best answer or advice to give. That's why I check out everything I hear with the Bible. If it contradicts what God has said then I know that it's wrong!

If what they say is true or wise, then yes, you should listen to them.
If you honestly feel they know better, on a particular issue, or matter, then yes, its probably a good idea.
But, unfortunately, just because people grow older does not mean they grow wiser.
If an older person says something which is foolish, or ignorant, then you probably shouldn't listen to them.
If you honestly feel they don't know better, on a particular issue or matter, and they wont explain, then maybe you shouldn't listen to them.
And aside from all that, you should trust your feeling. Not your emotions, if for example, you are angry, or excited, but your real deeper feeling.
And the same goes for every person, older, younger, alive or dead.

If an older person says, or does something stupid, then in a way it's doubly stupid. The darn fool's been around longer & should know better. (Of course this is barring some form of senility or dementia, which gets us outside of your point.)
Old people in general do have experience on their side, but that doesn't mean they've all learned from it.
My advice? It's fine to keep an ear ****** to what they say, but keep a grain of salt close at hand. A lot us of got old, not that many got smart.

Most of the time, people who are older than you are have already walked the road you haven't even mapped out for yourself. Elders are supposed to be those with the wisdom to help you dodge most of the pot holes. Unfortunately, if these boards are any indication of what parents are like these days, I feel sorry for the children and teenagers who will look to their elders for counsel. The parents are not much more mature than their own children.

This is the tribute paid by intellect to experience as it should be if it is genuine experience which unfortnately is not. Though elders try to arrogate to themselves this high plane it is more a remant o the patriarchal society and nothing else. You need not blindly accept the advice but you can certainly give it a thoughful consideration.

Definitely not. You should probably respect them and take their opinions into consideration, but you don't HAVE to listen to them.

No. But you should give them the courtesy of listening to what they have to say.
