I've wanted to be in ballet since I was 4, but my Mom could never affoard it.
Now that I have a job I finally can, is there any way I can persue my dream?

Doubt it.

Traditionally, a ballerina is the principle dancer of a dance company (not just any ballet dancer). To make it to a professional dance company takes lots and lots of work, talent, determination, sacrifice and some amount of luck (if the other dancers around you really rock, then you're in for some stiff competition)

At 15, like the other user said, most of your bones/joints are near finished growing and developing a good turnout and pointe will be quite tough. Flexibility and strength can still be developed, but not as easily as if you were abit younger.

Of course you can start taking ballet lessons and see how fast you progress. With the right attitude and lots of work, you can definately make it as a dancer, maybe even in a prestegious company. As prima ballerina? I dont think so.

But remember, there is alot more to ballet than just the ballerina, and you can still enjoy life in dance. . all the best! p.s here is a nice ballet dictionary (with video) to help you along.

yup I would buy a 15 year old horse, even though she has to be brought back into work she will be pretty safe and chilled out and will probably be a very nice horse. I know a 35 year old pony that can still jump (only x poles and 18 inches but still jumping!) and my friend bought a horse that was 16 and didn't retire it till 27 and it lived till 31! And i currently ride a 27 year old half blind dressage mare and show her with good results, she moves like a 16 year old! Hickstead was an olympic horse and named one of the best horses in the world and he was planning to go to the olympics at age 15, but he died from a heart problem or blocked artery or something that could have happened to any horse! One of Ian Millars olympic horses he sold to a rider he was training and the horse was 18 and still competing at grand prix level! Most horses don't reach their prime till 11-15 so even though it is an older age the horse will still be perfectly good!!!!! As long as it has no health issues (teeth, legs and back are all fine) there shouldn't be a problem :) Hope you have fun with your new horse (whatever you may end up with!)

I started dancing when I was 18 and went on pointe when I was 20. I'm not a professional dancer, but that's because I chose not to be. I definitely know that if you go to a good ballet school and work really hard you can definitely find your dreams.

Also there are tons of things you can do at home to help you progress faster. Stretch! it's really important. Also if you can find this book in the library, it's got a lot of great information "The Dancer's Companion" by Eliza Minden.

Good Luck.

You can take some dance lessons, yes, but a professional career in ballet? It's too late. Your body is already developed and the chance to groom yourself for the physique of a ballerina is probably gone. Good luck.

Yes - although it will be quite taxing for you -
Seek a ballet school, and approach the headmistress. . . she can tell fairly quickly what your abilities may be, before you expend a lot of time and money, needlessly.
Best wishes to you - and be proud that you have the courage to pursue your dream. . .

Absolutely! All you have to do is add the word "ballerina" to your Yahoo! nickname and, VOILA, you're a ballerina! Even if you "choose" not be professional! See how easy it is?
