i wanna apply for a lerner permit in DMV, the list of documents acceptedas proof of identity and date of birth says "bring a US college photo ID card and an academic transcript". but i only have grade reports =/

A transcript also usually has some information on top that makes it an official document to be used as proof of identity.

No. A grade report usually reports grades over the term or semester. An academic transcript shows all grades earned while the student was enrolled up to the date the transcript was pulled.

grade reports are different from transcripts though in reality they contain the same information. You have to get a transcript from the admissions office and it is an official document whereas your grades are not "official" - just your official grades. I know - it doesn't make sense except when you look at how the university gets to make money out of it (you get charged for a copy of your transcript but your grades are free).

transcript shows all the lessons that you took during your education, and your marks from ALL lessons one by one.
you can get your transcript from student affaris at your university/school.

grade report, as far as i understood, might be your grade point average.

i think, the universities want both of them.

please call student affairs of your university and the university you want to apply for detailed information.

dont forget to get the papers' certifiated copies. (your transcripts and other papers should be certifiated by your university).

take them but you should need them if y our in college only if your in high school do you need them
