Hello!
I am seeking some advice about the 11 year old boy who lives next door to us. This kid has basically no supervision, and has nothing to do during the summer. Which means he spends all his free time over at our house or with my siblings. He is incredibly possessive of my sister, and since she is very docile and outspoken, thinks she should spend all her time with him doing what he wants. He throws fits when she wants to do something with me or something that doesnt involve him. He abuses and picks on my brother, and he manipulates my 7 year old sister. He is a control freak, who has no respect for my mother or the rules of our household. My mother will chew him out when he won't stop something, and all he does is complain about how she has no right to do so, since she is not his mother. Today for the first time, my mother finally banned him from our property for a day, after she could no longer stand his rulebreaking. What can we do about to stop this?

You're mom did the right thing. But it has to be immediate and progressive. Next time he breaks a rule he should immediately be out the door for a 2 day penalty. After that a week. Eventually he may get it. If he doesn't then you don't have to worry because he will be banned longer. She has to stick to it to. She can't say he is banned for 2 days then let him come back after just one etc.

Your mom was absolutely right by banning him from the property. Although that may not be enough, it is a good start. Unfortunately, this 11 year old really needs guidance but it is not your mothers job. I think the best way to handle your problem is to try to ban together and tell your mom how you dislike what is happening in the house due to this 11 year old. Have you tried to praise your mom for doing the right thing for all of you.? I'm sure as a mom she probably feels bad and needs your support. There is no hope for this 11 year old to change, the very best would be to forbid him from the property until............It would be nice if your mom could have a little chat with this 11 year olds mother but chances are your mom doesn't want to get that involved.

How about calling DCF: Department of Child and Family services. IT lookes like they need help. If he's treating your family the way he does. then that means there are people treating him that same way in his family which is not good. I think DCF should be called.

Keep the ban going and send him back to his house when he comes over.
