Do you have an antivirus? If so, make sure it is updated and working at all times. They make new viruss all the time.. so if you don't update the system, it doesn't know to detect new viruses. It's good to get something that does the automatic update.
If your computer does crash.. don't go out an buy a brand new computer, bring it to a specialist first to see if t hey can fix it.

Clean the inside of the tower and fan from any dust that has gathered inside using compressed air or something similiar. Most freezes are due to a heating problem.

* Dont install unwanted applications in the computer
* Install a good Antivirus, Firewall and Spyware application
* Run the Disk Defragmenter, Disc Cleanup in regular Intervals
* Dont Dump lots of files in the computer

Try servicing it!
De-frag the hard drive, don't just install a virus program run it!
Delete all the crap you do not use, using the add/delete programs.

make sure that your registry is clean, and delete from your hard drive but defintely buy a registry cleaner.
