Exactly. I think ppl are more worried that familes are no longer going to be "traditional" (with a mum and dad together). But how effed up are traditional families nowadays anyway?! I'm glad that it's legal in Canada now. Our former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau said it best when he said "The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation" ~ no matter what your religious or personal belief might be, you can't impose your views on other ppl who are doing nothing to interfere with your life. It's just a matter of human rights.

PS - OMG.... the ignorant ppl who have answered this question in the time it took to compose mine! I can't believe someone is comparing the marriage b/w 2 *adults* of the same sex to marrying a child or even an ANIMAL?!? Give me a break! Love is love, and adults are adults... There are no arguments at ALL against gay marriage except religious ones, and we all should know by now that we can't force our religious views on others! You can't say that all heterosexual marriages are to produce children, b/c we all know that's not true. Think it's disgusting all you want, but fight to the death for everyone to have basic rights please. I believe in God and Jesus, and actually consider myself quite religious even thogh I don't go to church nowadays. But I think the way to running a country or society is allowing others to make their own choices. I would never support religions having to cater to gay marriages, I think it's the church's right to refuse to change, but our government needs to allow freedom and rights to rule supreme.

I can see your point. I guess I am just old fashioned. I don't care if a person is gay or not. I think a person is what he is the day he was born. And I have no right to condemn someone because they are different than me. But, somewhere, deep in my heart, I see marriage as a union between a man and a woman with the intention of creating a family together. Now I know not all married people have children, but most do.

I'm sorry my opinions offend you and I realize they are not the only ones out there. Just because I feel this way doesn't make me right. And I don't really spend a lot of time worrying about it because it is simply a personal opinion and not a big political issue for me.

No one should care its neither right or wrong it just is. For those who say its not normal. It is normal every species on this planet engages in it. And society changes on a whim whoever has the biggest mouth and the most aggressive attitude decides whats normal and what is acceptable by society. The guys who think its wrong are not too secure in their own sexuality and the girls could really care less until they want to be mean, spiteful and nasty to a boyfriend, lover or husband who they perceived did them wrong then That's the first thing out their mouths that they were either bad in bed or they are gay. It doesn't really affect you or effect you unless you want it to and then you should ask yourself why you want it to. That crap about the children is plain lame and I suspect most of those who said it have not had an original thought in their vacuous heads. That quote from Genesis was After they were kicked out of the Garden of Eden and why do christians always quote the old testament when they want to justify their sanctimonious attitudes? Didn't Jesus bring a New testament and that is what your suppose to follow didn't he say the Old laws don't apply isn't that what makes you a christian following his teachings? There are over 600 do's and don'ts in the old testament and I would bet those quoting it don't follow any of them only use the words. There is more than one religion in the world so that "its a religious ceremony" implies its only a christian ceremony that is valid ..god what hipocrites quoting the Bible didn't christ say not to judge and worring about cinders in other peoples eye when you have a log in your own

FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE ANTI-GAY I WOULD JUST LIKE TO PERSONALLY GO AHHHHHHHH!! I have a friend who thinks the whole thought of gay-ness is completely wrong and disgusting just think about it as though you were gay. Being gay isn't a sin, and sure it may be odd and different why should we care so much about what other people are doing with their lives when we should worry about ours. Like another person said love is what matters and happiness. For all you homophobes I would just like you to know that what a marrige is about is love and happiness not being of the opposite sex! Love is real no matter what gender you are. One last comment is that these people are adults and should be able to have the choice to do what they feel. Imagine if two people of the opposite gender marrying was considered disgusting, and wasn't allowed. Just_think_then_listen

To allow gay marriage to exist would degrade the meaning and sacredness of real (i.e., heterosexual) marriage. I know I wouldn't be so eager to get married if the institution into which I wanted to enter was also being appropriated by people who are using it as an excuse to indulge in sinful behavior under the guise of social acceptability. Marriage is supposed to be an affirmation of the basic fact that humanity exists in two genders, male and female, and that when a male and a female come together to form a family, it's a beautiful, blessed thing. Gay marriage is a warped appropriation of this sacred institution by people who have no business doing what they're doing.

I'm not sure why people care about gay people getting married. Because they're going to be together anyway, right? Marriage is just another step that actually "binds" them together, and in reality, no one should care about those kinds of things except the people who are involved. People are just ignorant and dislike change, when change is happening all the time. Anyone who says it is changing the next generation or that it is wrong or against the bible are idiots, and need to accept things for the way they are. People are going to be gay whether anyone likes it or not, and you just have to be used to it, and the bible disapproves of so many things, it's really pointless to try and be "clean."

I personally, do not believe in marriage for gays because marriage is a holy union between a woman and a man, in convernant with God. Civil unions, however are fine. If Joe and John or Betty and Brenda decide that they are in love and want to share their lives and property, then they should be able to do so under a "Civil Union". I have no problem with that at all.

Look, holy matrimony should be as God prescribes and not how the "Gay Movement" demands. I believe that gay couples should be allowed to co-habit and share their all with the love of their life if they are so inclinded. But not sanctioned by any Christian church.

The government should allow them to share insurance, be seen as the next of kind and with all the other rights and restrictions that heretosexual couples enjoy. The government cannot however, decree over God's word. I am really bending on this issue.

Mine, is not hate speech but is predicated on God's law. Gay unions would do good to just respect the religion of those of us who are glad to see them happy in their chosen life. Why must gays shove this marriage thing down our throats anyhow? Why is this such a "in your face, issue", for gays?

Because some people in this world have nothing better to do then criticize other peoples lives. Their lives are so pathetic that they have to say something about it. I am sorry but i hate people who are like that. Like you said how does it affect them? The thing is it doesn't so they shouldn't worry about it. But of course they do. If someone wants to get married to their same sex then let them and shut up about it. Of course there will always be one of those people in the world...So they all might as well keep their mouths shut and let other people live their lives the way they want to.

I think some people think it ruins the idea behind marriage. But that "idea" is a person's own moral belief-and not everyone believes in the same thing. My point is that America is suppose to be all about freedom-this country was established so that people could escape religious prosecution-and now look what we've become-a country whose laws reflect the beliefs of one religion (Christianity)-and condemn other beliefs by making some or all of their customs illegal. Being gay or lesbian isn't necessary something that is a part of any certain religion, but like religion, it is a lifestyle, something that I believe people should have the right to decide for themselves. Making gay marriage illegal is the same in my mind as making marriage to multiple wives illegal (which is perfectly acceptable in some religions). It may seem morally wrong to some, but what gives a certain group of people the right to say they are right and everyone who believes differently is wrong? America is turning into the very thing it fought against when the country was formed. It makes me sad that people want to force their beliefs on others by condemning and illegalizing whatever it is they don't believe in. Not everyone should be forced to live under one mindset, we are not all robots. If you want to believe in something, fine. But it is not your place to go around trying to force other people to abide by the moral obligations you set for yourself. It doesn't do any good to try to govern moral activity, as ultimately, an individual will decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong-to force people to live a certain way will only equal bitterness and unrest. Live and let live is what I say.

I care cuz I don't think its wrong, love is never wrong, even if you love a stop sign, lol. So I care because I think people should just chill out about it, cuz people have the right to be happy and do what they want if it isn't going to harm anyone else. And the girl who said that gay people will burn in hell is a b**** who has no clue what shes talking about, just thought everyone should know that, lol
