I think there should be an early round where there's 16 play-in games, that precede the 64 team tourney. Either that or leave the current format alone. What do you think?

According to Wikipedia, there are currently 334 colleges and universities which field Division I men's basketball teams...

To me, I guess it really doesn't matter how many schools make the tournament... it obvously becomes less 'special' when you have many more teams involved. But expanding to 128 teams would only involve one additional weekend, and the players aren't really in school to study anyway.

I agree with you about the 'play in' games... the last thing we need is to have a #1 vs # 32, #2 vs. #31, etc...they need to eliminate some dead wood first, before the 'real' tournament starts.

But I wouldn't have any objections if they wanted to expand the tournament...people who want to watch the extra games are welcome to do just that, or if they want to wait till the later rounds to watch, they can do that as well.

Here is some recent history as to how many teams made the NCAA tournament:

1953-1974: 24 teams (sometimes 22-25 teams)
1975-1978: 32 teams
1979: 40 teams
1980-1982: 48 teams
1983: 52 teams (four play-in games before the tournament)
1984: 53 teams
1985-2000: 64 teams (in 1991 three play-in games before the tournament)
2001-Present: 65 teams (with a Play-In Game to determine whether the 64th or 65th team plays in the first round)

I still think the tournaments are great...March madness is still great to watch (even though you don't see much in the way of good fourth-year players any more).

So yeah, what the heck... expand the tournament... we'll all still watch it anyway, regardless!

The format today is fine...128 teams is crazy...to much madness...i dont think theres even 128 teams in the NCAA...that was a joke. But seriously...128 is just way to many...talk about a bracket buster!
