Have a two-year old GE side-by-side refrigerator; the freezer side makes a VERY ghost-like moan/whine, usually in the evening-night hours. It sounds a bit whistle-y, like air passing through a tight space. Sound lasts about 10-15 seconds, ascending in tone and then descending, and repeats regularly. No temperature problems or frosting, though--otherwise is running fine. GE FAQ at http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/faqs/faq_refrigerators.htm indicates that most modern fridges "moan, groan or sizzle." Dug around the Web and only found one similar experience, someone who had a repairman come out. He installed a "noise pack" on the back of the appliance that didn't really help. Should I bother coughing up the dough for a service call?

i've seen this problem on several newer G.E. refrigerators. The fan motor in the freezer is a variable speed DC current motor. I tried changing a couple, but it still had the same problem. This is just one of many changes made to gain energy efficiency, & it is causing problems that G.E. has no answers for.

I work at a assisted living center. Something knocks from inside one of the freezers quite often. I open the door, and nothing is ever there. Another employee was convince it was a ghost ( I never saw one). She opened the door , and told it "your fee now please go away'. Amazingly the freezer never knocked again (may bee she was right). Perhaps ghost like cold, and get stuck inside freezers? They can't leave until you set them free? Who knows? worth a try

Since ghosts do not exist I don't know where you referenced one from.

when a fridge is in defrost mode there is a heating element in the back of the freezer that is hot and there is expanding and contracting taking place so you'll hear "movement" ie; "ghostly" sounds.

Have you been having humid weather because when the weather gets really hot it will cause the freezer to work harder and that may be it since it is still doing its job wait to see if it does it in cooler weather.
