Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could answer my question. Let's say you had your Social Insurance Number stolen, when you ask the government to issue you a new one, do they give you the same number or a new number?
Thanks
.

No, you will get a new plastic card, but it's gonna be the same numbers, again. The best thing to do is never bring your SIN with you so it cannot be stolen. You should check with Equifax, or TransUnion for a credit history check up. Make sure nobody falsely posed as you and borrowed money on your behalf.

They give you the same number. S.I.Ns change only when the status of the person changes. Temporary residents and refugees have one number (starts with a 9), landed immigrants have another (starts with a 5), citizens another number (usually starting with a 4), Canadian born citizens another number, aboriginal people another one, and so forth.

They would issue you with the new SIN number in order to Access and Lock your personal information in their Public databank.Your old SIN number is automatically cancelled thereafter.

You can request a replacement, that would be the same number.

It should be reported. They may add a
"prefix" to identify your account and possibly catch another user.

I don't know this. Call SSI in your city.

You are screwed. You may as well pick a 3rd world country of your choice for deportation.

They would give you a new one if it was stolen.
