It will take years to change, the first and best move is to elect a President and Representatives who will get us on the road to respect again. Bush go back to Crawford to wheel and deal on his multi-million *** and laugh all the way to the bank.

As you evidently have realized, there are reasons why the world has lost love and respect for the Americans! The only way to change that is to eliminate the reasons which led to this situation!
First of anything else the American government must stop talking with a twisted tongue or apply double standards!
What is good for one must be just as good for others. Today the world has love and respect only for honesty and rightousness. Since decades the American government is not performing with honesty!
If one group is doing something (Israeli) they call it self-defence; if another group is doing the same thing, they call it terrorism (Palestinians)!
If one country is not behaving right, the American government will declare war to that country (Afghanistan, Iraq); if another country is behaving a million times worth (Kongo, Nigeria, Sudan), the American government does not care!
The world wants and is willing to love the American nation, only the American nation must give them the possibility to do so by applying an equal standard for all!

Americans are respected and loved through out the world. The policy's of the Federal government are what people in other nations have a problem with. This will not change what's best for our national interest does not always fly in other countries. I don't know anyone who gave up American citizenship to live in another country. There are millions who want to become American citizens.

When Russia was the other world power they could careless what the rest of the world thought of them. The world loved them. The US trys to make the world love them & the world hates it. The US should take a hint from Russia and stop caring. Live its life ignoring the rest of the worlds problems. See if the world likes that better. The world hates a savior. The last big named one, found out how much saviors are loved on a cross.

Honestely I don't think the world hates us as much as the media portrays. I do think the worlds press hates America, and honestly I think its capitalism they hate the most. Which is sad because Capitalism is a pretty darn good solution to a lot of problems - no way is it perfect but compared to socialism, communism and other systems its the best.
Bill Clinton tried to "buy off" the world. Remember all his photo ops in the white house with leaders from other nations. Almost all of those came with foriegn aid checks. We can't do that - we can't buy off the leaders of foreign nations. We must stay true to our principles and beliefs. Ultimately the people will respect us for that for those beliefs are in the people themselves.

I for one do not care if we are "loved" by other country's
They look at the world differently than we do .They are not used to seeing people argue ,debate, discuss,or bicker and all still love our country. Most of theses country's don't have that freedom. So when they see us do theses things they think there are chinks in our armor so they throw their barbed remarks and innuendos thinking we will crumble and fall or become like them. But believe it or not I have faith in the people of America. We are at our personal best during a crisis, and now is a time of crisis,
have you lost faith in the principles this country was founded on ,have you not seen democracy in action. Each election you cast a vote in,each time you voice an opposing view you use that freedom .Do you want to lose that freedom? Do you want to become like those people who are virtual prisoners in their country's. No I don't think you do ,this country is going thru a crisis
and she needs you .Love and respect your privilege to live in the free est nation in the world, stand tall and brave ,
and say I am an American, and I am proud.

Each US Citizen could consume a little less. Put in a fair trading system that helps all countries establish the middle class instead of rewarding trading companies that want to keep all just hanging on, and follow Washington advice about foreign involvement.

Elect someone who doesn't insult and denigrate the other nations of the world such as France (ever heard of "freedom fries"). We are getting the same amount of respect and admiration our president has shown to other nations. What goes around comes around.
I appreciate the question. Most Republicans take great delight in aggravating, insulting, belittling, and patronizing the rest of the world. Their arrogance makes all Americans suffer.

Start with the name... In reality America spans from Alaska all the way down to Chile. To speak about "America" meaning only the the USA is as much as if I started to speak about "Caucasian" but referring to me only. How would that make me look in your eyes? and more importantly, what kind of behaviour can be expected from me if I don't even see a problem with that?

If you meet foreigners and if you travel then do not act like the ugly American, show respect for other beliefs and culture. Do not run around saying how bad the food is and their toilet paper. Don't act like only America is the best and only place to be. We can't help what our government does but one by one we can leave a nicer image to other nationalities.

Like and respect are given when the giver thinks the receiver of the like and respect deserve it. One can never make one like or respect. My suggestion would be live as the Declaration of Independence and the subordinate U S Constitution is written. I think it is a very good way of living, and I think most of US People don't follow.
