I want to replace the corian back splash with tile. The splash board appears to be siliconed in place. Will it pop out if I apply force to separate it from the counter top itself?

all the corian and Hi-Max and granite i have installed they use silicon........

can u keep the back splash and just add the tile to the top of the back splash! if not i would run a raver knife along the top of the splash where it meets the sheetrock.....all the way around.

then i would use a small pry bar and slowly work the splash toward the front and make sure u have the pry bar on a stud........

u will be able to tell if the splash is going to release from the top.......

NOTE: most of the time the splash is NOT attached to the counter top but to the wall with caulk......what ur seeing might just be a bead of caulk that was installed to keep water from going between the splash and the top........if so run ur knife along this edge also and i am betting it will release.........

the splash guard on your corian counter top is not siliconed... it is a stone adhesive.. which gets into the pores of the corian.. if you put enough pressure to break the bond holding it together you run the risk of breaking the countertop along with the splashbaord.. my recomendation is to cut the backing off just a little higher than the countertop and sand it down to lvl with the countertop. that way you wont have to worry about cracking your expensive corian, and can still get the tile in where u want it. use a small dremel with a metal cut off wheel... may take a bunch of wheels to cut the stone, but in the long run i think its your best bet
