I saw it on Telivision once and the Hawaiins were saying they are greatfull for the Lava flows because it is constantly addinng adding fresh land to build on and don't mind losing thier house to the fires that come along with it.

The most recent eruption of Mt. Kilauea (which has been continously erupting from 1983 to the present) has added over 500 acres to the Big Island of Hawai`i. It is my understanding that most of this new land is unbuildable since it is in a high risk lava zone and is very unstable to build on.

The lava flow is not constant
The answer also depends on too many other variables to mention
