Horse camp is the FUNNEST thing in the entire WORLD! Ok, each camp is different, but I'll tell you some of the things I had. I've been to three camps. In one camp, it was about 3 hours and we learned how to take care of horses, we had a big group lesson and we would do games on horseback, then untack and groom the horses and ponies, eat lunch, and go home, and then the last day we all went on a trail ride. In another camp, it was about 6 hours and we did the same thing. Learned about horses and horse care, rode in a big group lesson, had lunch, did arts and crafts (painting horse shoes), and then went home. Also, at the end, they had a big contest on the best groomed pony/horse. In the one I went to recently, I had the most amount of fun. It was 5 hours, and we learned all about horses. We learned how to put on hoof oil, wrap their legs, make the manes into hunter/jumper manes, we groomed and washed them until they shone, and learned about breeds and parts of the horse. We also rode for 2 hours, and did tons of games. We would also lead our horses along a path (on the ground, us leading them with lead ropes), and have a nice walk. We'd also eat lunch, and then run in the sprinklers and have arts and crats. And at the end, we went for a long trail ride and did a show to show the parents what we'd learned. Oh, in camps, usually you stay with the same pony/horse the whole time. If you ever go to Palos Verdes, go to Portuguese Bend Riding Club. Best instructors, and in the summer, best camp ever

be careful as to which camp you send your child, you want to make sure there not going to be used as barn help, and that they are learning correct horsemanship. there are lots of places that call them selves horse camps but only a handful qualified to TEACH. Remember horses can be dangerous and without qualified people added to the mix disaster is just waiting to happen. Make sure you ask questions, get the answers your looking for. Ask local tack stores and feed stores if they know anything about the "camp" your looking at, people are always willing to let you know about a bad experience, or a good one too. At horse camp you should learn all the basics of good horsemenship, grooming, the basic body parts of the horse and the correct terms, how to saddle correctly, what brushes are used to do what body part, how to lead a horse, and ride a horse, the correct way to mount and dismound balance, one week the usual lengh, but there are some out there where you can go for a month.

Each horse camp is different, but my first one went for five days. Everyone was given a horse which was their responsibility for the rest of the week. We were organised into 4 groups, one more experienced than the next. During the day, we'd swap over so one group would ride and the other would do some theory.

you go to camp and learn about horses. You take riding lessons and learn about the horse care part as well as other horse related issue. Most camps have levels for beginners up to advanced. It depends on the camp, how long and where it is at as to the cost.

Horse camp is very fun. Usually, you learn to groom and care for the horse, then you get to actually learn to ride that horse, and eventually show your parents a routine at the end of the camp. Its very fun.

In my horse camp you learn about how to take care of the horses. (cleaning stalls and tack, shining their hoofs, ect. ) and you also learn a bunch of stuff on riding. You can be a beginner and at the end of the camp you can become a champion.
