You are better off trying to force the stopper back into the lock. I am talking about the piece that retracts when you turn the door now. Bedroom doors usually have some room in the door jam to where you could use a screw driver or paperclip. With a screwdriver push from the front and try to push it inward. Then use a paperclip or something thin and flat on the inside to slide it inwards.

You can pick up the tools at Northern Tools and Equipment. You need two thin pieces of metal. One is shaped like an L, the other is straight with a small hook on the end. The L shaped one is used to put pressure on the lock to turn it. The other tool scrapes across the tumblers till they seat themselves into place.

It's amazing what you can learn from the Discovery Channel.

it depends on what kind of lock.sometimes a bobby pin will work and other times you need something bigger like a clothes hanger.somthing that fits easily in the key hole.just slide the object in and try both twisting it and jiggeling it a little.don't go by everything i say i am not a master.
