Give em TV, movies, video games and tell them it's not their fault that they're poor or don't have everything they want. That it's someone elses fault. And let's get even with them!

Through advanced hypnosis, or simply by making a person very sleep deprived, after that they would have to be told a certain thing many and many times, when that's done due the person's lack of sleep, they will come to believe that what's told to me them is the truth. This was the method Charles Manson used to brainwash those teens to commit murders for him.

Torture. People who are in prison (or caged/held hostage) situations often become brainwashed by the people who imprison them. By being in the poor situation long enough with threat of death or bodily harm and with the jailer offering some sort of reward (freedom) if they do the correct thing, the prisoner often will start to be sympathetic to the jailer and eventually truly believe in whatever the jailer says. For example, a prisoner of war situation.

Repeat what you want them to believe over and over again. Word it five or six different ways but keep saying it and they'll start to believe it. If people hear or read something enough times, they'll start to believe it. If you say it enough times, they'll become so convinced it's true they'll fight viciously to defend it against anyone who says otherwise. If you can't count on others to repeat it to them, too, preface it with "some say..." so it sounds like there are other people repeating the same thing over and over. Most importantly, keep repeating it.
