What are middle names for if all they want is the first letter?

Who only wants the first letter? A middle name can be very helpful in distinguishing between two people who have the same, or similar names. And middle names often have some family significance.
A number of people call themselves by their middle name, if they don't like their given name, so it's a useful option and doesn't cost as much as officially changing your name.

Why just one middle name for that matter? Lets give our kids 2 or 3 middle names so they can be really original. I think it is because when the population started rising, 2 names wasn't enough because some people would have the same first and last name. So they threw in another one. We didn't always have technology to make it easier.

So parents don't have to just choose one name from their list. It's so tough just to get it down to two...my kids will have 5 names and it will take me forever to yell at them when they're in trouble.

its for yelling at the kids- 3 names always sound best- or when they become serial killers-- cuz almost all of them are know by 3 names
