The novel is better I think because of its style, first of all. In the book you are able to apreciate more the writer's humour, irony and satire. The movie, on the other hand, is shorter and many important elements are left out, of course. I have seen only the new version of the movie, which is quite similar to the book with little alterations. I also believe that the book is more worth reading than seeing the movie as you are able to fully appreciate the pleasure of art. You have to use your imagination in creating the characters and the situations. Furthermore, the movie discloses all those little allusions that may lead to the climax of the story. Austen's style is more subtle than that. In adition, the movie is a copy of the original material. In my opinion, the original is always better. The movie is also quite good I must admit. So I suggest you first read the book and then watch the movie and decide which one was better.

P & P UK TV adaptation of 1995. The book is very slow and meandering and hard to get into and enjoy. The new film with Keira Knightley I found rushed, boring, she didn't really match the description in the book (Lizzie Bennett had more get up and go, and she wasn't flat chested either), and Matthew Macfadyen didn't have the proper upper class voice, the looks or the ability to smoulder. Now, Colin Firth in the 1995 version had the looks, the body, acted well, had the accent and came across as a hot guy with a tortured soul. Jennifer Ehle had just the right amount of bust, joie de vivre, the enthusiasm and the acting ability and seemed to really get into the role. Even though I know how it ends, every time I see that version I have real empathy for the characters.

I like the old version of Pride and Prejudice the best. I'm sure the book is great, but it's just too slow for me. And to be honest, I haven't seen the newer version of the movie.

While I do enjoy reading the novel, it doesn't bore me, I do like the miniseries version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. It is my favorite adaptation so far. While both are good, they are slightly different from one another. I remember some of my favorite snippets from the dialogue missing from the movie...but both are good. I think this version is better than the newer version because it is fuller...it is more...the other is fast, rushed, and doesn't really bother with setting up the characters and situations. It's too jumpy. But I do like it, just not as much.

The book is obviously the best. There's no comparison to the richness of the written word and your own imagination. That being said, the version from the '30's with the screenplay written by Aldous Huxley was very good. The BBC version has its moments, especially any part with Mr. Bennett in it.

Emma and Wuthering Heights. Jane Eyre and satisfaction & Prejudice are very different, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that they are the two masterpieces. i'm many times puzzled by ability of the incontrovertible fact that Charlotte Bronte ought to not abide the works of Jane Austen.

I love all of them. It depends on what you're looking for from the book. Austen has a great sense of wit and some amazing aspects to her writing, but she can be a bit lengthy and/or vague when it comes to dialogue and describing setting. if you're willing to be focused on it, its amazing.

I love both movies. The older one is fabulous, if you have a couple hours. the New one is also wonderful. Its almost completely incomperable to the novel (think Abbreviated CliffNotes), but as a bit of entertainment, i love it.

I tried to read the book but I found it to be a little dull. I saw the new movie and thought it was really good. the music, scenery, and costumes were perfect depictions of the victorian time period.
