on the 2.4 the water pump is a 6 hour pain the in a$$ to replace. it's on the motor, but driven by the timing chain(STUPID idea) anyway, there is no such thing as a water pump light. there is however a coolant level light, and a temp light, both of which could mean you're almost out of coolant...check it

It is a part of your engine, but it is an external piece that keeps the coolant circulating throughout the system.
It is operated by a belt attached to the main drive pulley on the crank.
It may possible that your belt is loose and is causing problems.
I had a '99 Sonoma that had a bad water pump. I had put "silicated" coolant into the system. This coolant type is not recommended for this engine, unbeknownest to me at the time.
The silica in the coolant ate up the turbines in the pump housing and killed the cooling sytem.
Once I replaced the pump, I figured out that it was the wrong type of coolant that caused this problem.
Take your vehicle to another mechanic for a quick "eyeball" at your coolant. Tell him you want to know if "they" put the right type of coolant into your vehicle because your warning light is flashing. He can tell just by looking if it is the right type.
there should be a sticker under the hood that probably says, "Use only non-silicated coolant", or something to that effect.

The water pump is bolted to the engine. Which light is on? If it is the "check engine" light, you may have left a wire off or gotten the cam timing wrong. Hard to say. The water pump simply pushes water, so it won't turn on a light by itself. Good luck!

The water-pump housing will in all likelihood be a forged-alloy case which includes the pump impeller and has the hose inlets and retailers formed into it. it will be suited for the engine with a 'gasket' to avert water loss, made up of the two rubber, vinyl, paper or cork. verify your engine handbook for the superb technique to in good condition the gasket, the superb sealant to apply, the superb torque to tension the bolts to. Be VERY careful engaged on a water-pump - that's the place annoying metallic and gentle alloy meet, and gentle alloy could be broken very actual.

It's bolted to the front of the engine. It may be behind the timing cover, not sure but if the light is coming on then have it pressure tested for a leak!

if you had the pump fixed, the damage to the engine was probably already done.(before the pump was changed.)
these engines cannot take much abuse, overheat once, and you could be in for trouble.

if yer water pump is not attached to yer engine, it's either french or VERY badly blew up. either way it's not driveable. if it runs fine and doesnt overheat, ignore the idiot light
