I've been told to use better drawing paper, but how much of a difference does that make? Is it best to use a heavier paper?

well it all depends on what you are doing. There of Hot pressed papers there are. Cold Pressed papers. When you go to a professional art store you should be able to tell them what media you are using and they should be able to recommend a decent kind of paper. Bond paper is usually the cheapest drawing paper that you can get and it is really cheap. But the better papers look better and a lot of time are more expensive too. I think that I spend $10 on one piece of paper once, but I loved it.

Oh, no matter what anyone says If you are just doing quick sketching I would realy recommend usually bond paper not Newsprint. Newsprint will get destroyed in no time but bond will last if you ever wanted to keep the sketch. I Learned that one from personal experience.

Heavier paper will give your artwork more depth. Look at a pen and ink or charcol done on a piece of quality paper, and then look at something that was meant for an office copy machine. You'll be able to answer the question yourself.

Drawing paper comes in different weights and textures. You just need to figure out which type of paper is the best for what you are doing. If you are unsure, go to your local art store and ask.
