I'm serious about this question.
Personally, I woould like to know more about swordsmithing too, but if that attracts more ridicule thn this question, I'll keep that out of here and ask people who don't resort to flaming.

Black smithing is still a viable occupation (we still have horses). Check under metal smithing in your area, or your local art community may be able to help, as it is a very recognizable art form today.
P.S. The Calgary Stampede still has a black smithing tournament every year.
