Because when you wax a floor it fills in a lot of the grooves and ridges and that takes away a lot of the friction. When there is little friction your feet are more liable to slide and slip.

A shiny surface has a higher reflection coeficient than scattering coeffincient. The scattering coeffincient is a measure of surface roughness, or at least variation in the refractive index. The surface roughness is correlated with the coefficient of friction. The friction force is proportional to the cofficient of friction and the surface area. Polishing has the effect of reducing the surface area (on a microscopic scale) and thus reducing the friction force. Note that a handfull of sand may have a surface area of many square meters.

Polish has a pretty low coefficient of friction against a lot of things - socks included. Since there's less friction, you can slide better. Wheee!
Other floor coverings, like carpet, tend to have a much higher coefficient of friction. But remember that frictional coefficients are measured between two surfaces.
For instance, I can slide on my kitchen floor in my socks, and not on carpet. But I have a pair of slippers that grips the kitchen floor and slides on the carpet. So it depends on what you've got on your feet.

because when u polish the floor the irregularities on the floor are filled up with whatever substance u use to polishit. for eg:if u use wax to polish the wax will fill up the small irregularities on the floor making the floor smooth and reducing friction. thats why it gets so slippery.

Polishing a surface means that you remove any small lumps or gradations in order that the surface reflects evenything more evenly. You rely on the difference between your feet and the surface for traction.

No friction. Shiny is good for a wall but bad for a floor. Floors should be dull.

rough floors have more surface area meaning more friction. when there isnt enough friction (flat polished floor) and you have a lubricant (water) you slip.
