I'd be a duck. Ducks are cool and they always look happy.

Something carnivourous, confident enough to be the top of the food chain most of the time.
If a mammal: a big cat. Tiger, perhaps. Though I've always been partial of lynx.
If a bird: A kestrel, maybe a peregrine falcon.
An aquatic mammal: Oh, I'd be an Orca. Travel in a pod, know each member of one's family by name. Yeah. I'd like that.
If a fish, I'd go for sharks, because they're real survivors.
Failing that ... human. The hairless primate. The only animal species, next to rats, that laughs.

I'd be a huge cat, about the size of your house. I would have blueish black "Attack of the Grey Lantern" roses alll over my soft silky fur. I would have a big spikey collar so that if someone tried to pick me up by the scruff of my neck, they would say "OUWW" and stop. My neck is very sensative.
I would have really sharp, long claws and I would live inside of your computer and come out at night when no-one was looking and steal your mouse.

I would be either a sea turtle or a tortoise in a deserted island. I would love to live 120+ years, think of all the things you could see change. plus they are wise animals.
