he's alive. i believe he really is just getting hospitalized now, but i do think he's worried he might die soon, which is why he passed the throne to his brother. i suppose he will still tell his brother what to do, though.

Frankly, it makes sense to withhold news of the death of a powerful leader. Those kinds of deaths lead other people to think they can now "act", usually with bad results. If FDR had died with two or three years left to go in WWII instead of with only weeks, the news might have given a renewed strength and optimism to the Nazis and Japanese and allowed radical members of Congress to think that their time had come to intervene in our war efforts. None of these would have been good. As it is, FDR died with only months left and Truman was left to attend the Potsdam post-war conference and decide on using the atomic bomb in Japan; there were many in the US as well as in the other victorious parties (notably Stalin) who thought Truman was a lightweight and they could now push the US around.

If Castro dies and they don't announce it right away, don't be too surprised. The only people who would really suffer by not knowing are those in Miami who, once Castro is gone, now have to find a new purpose to their lives for the first time in half a century.

I really don't know. I do know that he will eventually die, as will his brother Raul, so perhaps maybe the Cuban people will be able to get free, then someone will let us know.
