Alot of fathers work hard to pay their child support, provide insurance, and spend time with their children, while their ex-wives blow child support money on themselves. End result is the children go with out.

Should child support be accounted for ? If some one is reciving child support should child support recovery atleast make sure it is being used correctly, and possibly help determine if the mother of the children really cares or is just using them for a second income.

As a mother who recieves child support I know what you are saying is true in some cases. My ex knows however that the kids come first and they always have what they need and a lot of what they don't need. When we were going through our divorce we both asked our attorneys this same question as his mother swore I would blow all of the money and it wouldn't be on the kids and we were told then that as long as they had a place to live, electricity and water that nothing else mattered because all of those although you had to have them as well also were for the child's benefit. I don't agree with it either as I also think some men (and women) are paying more child support than should have to be paid. My husband pays $1000 a month for one kid, his ex is a registered nurse and her husband is a contractor with his own company their other child lives with us and she pays no support to him for their daughter. No matter how unfair it is to the one paying support OR the child involved the parent who has the child gets all the breaks.

Probably, but currently, as the law stands, the mother is presumed to be spending the money on the child, either as it comes in or beforehand.
The thing that I really seem to think might have a chance of helping to spell this out is the movement away from child support checks to debit cards. These might seriously be a way to have the system be self-accounting, if they are mandated. That way, if there is a dispute about where child support is being spent, you can print up a list of transactions and go off that.
Secondly, I think that if the government publishes lists of "deadbeat dads", it should also put out a list of "child support mothers", mothers who receive income from more than one NCP and distribute that as publically as they do the former list.

i think that at any time a woman should be able to show the father what she spent the money on. but dont forget that childsupport is for supportting the child as in, shelter, food, electric , water, heat durring the winter, any sports the child may be in, school clothes, school suppiles, things the kid likes to do like maybe camping, games for xbox or psp, theres tons of stuff a mother does with her money that takes care of the child. so if you want her to say what she spent child support. so unless this mom is like unfit im sure she uses what money she gets wisely

I guess you really have to ask yourself if you were still with your kids mom, how much would you be contributing to the household? I can't think of many women who would tell their husbands, boyfriends, whatever..."just give me 20% of what you make and I'll take care of the rest". I think it is your duty to take care of your children, just as if they were living with you. If you are worried about where the $ goes then only give what you have to and if your kids need something they are not getting, get it yourself for your child instead of giving mom more $. And you should probably clarify "used correctly". I mean do the kids have shoes and food or is mom using the kids food money to get her nails done?

I believe this does happen, I would be more than happy to account for where the money goes for child support if that blankety blank would just pay it.

Sometimes I think it is just the payor's perception that the ex is spending it on herself but either way, accounting for it would solve the problem...

That's ridiculious, I can gaurantee if the man had the child his expenses for the child(ren) would far outgrow the support. Besides, you can never give a blanket answer to things like this. Some cases it should be yes while most it would be no.

I think it should. There are too many selfish women, like the one you are describing, that simply use the money on themselves. Very sad indeed!!
