I use cloth diapers during the day on my son and I use the Seventh Generation natural non-chlorine bleached diapers at night (during the longer sleeping stretch because they seem to absorb more).
I use an all-in-one type that is fitted, has velcro (or snap) closures and is as easy to use as disposables. (No having to fold or pin anything) Obviously you have to do some washing if you intend to cut down on the costs (some diaper services are inexpensive though), but it really isn't that big of a hassle once you get into the habit of doing it.
I would highly recommend going cloth. It's much better for baby, mother nature and your pocket book! There are several wonderful websites out there...

This has been several years ago, but both my children broke out in a terrible rash if I used throwaways. The down side is the stinky diaper pail and you MUST do the laundry about every other day. No putting it off it the diapers need washing. I didn't have a washer or a dryer at the time.

I did cloth diapers for 6 months; they can be costly (do your homework for a good diaper service) and time consuming when you are out with your baby. Huggies makes a diaper that is biodegradable and safe. So don't give up on cloth diapers, but keep disposables available for when you are out of the house. Congrats.

My Grandparents paid for a cloth diaper service as a present to my parents when my twin sister and I were born... might be something to suggest! I don't know how much they run now, though, because that was back in '83.

I did cloth diapers with my second son until he developed an allergy to something we couldn't find, so the doctor recommended switching to disposables.
I saved hundreds of dollars using them. It was definitely worth the time and effort. If you have the time, I say GO FOR IT! :)

Basically I started cloth because they are so cute and because I don't have to spend money constantly on buying disposables. I just do an extra load of laundry a week and with 4 kids I can use the money I save by not buying disposables to buy more things for my children.

We have a 9 month old that we have been using cloth diapers with (Mother Ease Brand).
They are very easy to use, very inexpensive, and we can get back about 60% of what we paid for them on Ebay.
If you go to Mother Ease's forums (just google it), you can get lots of great info.
I highly recommend it (save money, better for baby, better for environment).
