Anyone know how fast a USB data connection is relative to an internal EIDE connected drive? Also - how can you be sure your system is USB "2" and not USB "1"?

internal Hard Drives have a an ATA/XXX label that specifies how fast it can go at in Mbps. 133 is common and fast however not as fast as USB 2.0 which has a peak speed of 480 Mbps. REMEMBER, this is for USB 2.0 not 1.1 which is a lot slower than internal hard drives.

hi,

the inteinal ide is real slow, i use a sata hard disk whicj\h is about 1Mb/sec and my processor gives an FSB of 800Mhz & 2Mb L2 cache

There is not much difference between USB2 & ! except that you can open the boardandsee thatUsB two has similarcables.. just read the Mohtherboard's manual to be sure...
